Abstract
A new reaction leading to 5-acyl-2-oxa~ olin-4-ones and to the corresponding hydrolysis products, p-keto-ahydroxy acid amides, is described. The reaction involves two steps:(1) the formation of a 2, 2, 2-trialkoxy-2, 2-dihydro-1, 3, 2-dioxaphospholerie from a trialkyl phosphite and an a-dicarbonyl compound and (2) the reaction of the phospholene with an acylisocyanate to yield the oxazolone and a trialkyl phosphate.
