summary 1. A satisfactory method is given for preparing various aldehyde esters by the ozonation of the methyl esters of unsaturated acids. 2. The use of the aldehyde esters in synthesizing hydroxy acids and unsubstituted acids is illustrated by the conversion of methyl a-aldehydooctanoate by means of butylmagnesium bromide into methyl B- hydroxytridecanoate and, finally, conversion of this latter compound through the bromide ...
