Abstract
A facile synthesis of 9-substituted 9-deazapurines as potential inhibitors of purine nucleoside phosphorylase has been achieved by the direct Friedel–Crafts aroylation or arylmethylation of 9-deazapurines using trifluoromethanesulfonic acid as catalyst.
