Abstract

Calcium hypochlorite has been used for ring chlorination of activated benzenoid compounds [6a] and oxidation of aldehydes [6b] alcohols [6c,d] sulfides, [6e] and uronates. [6f] Notably, α-hydroxy carbonyl compounds have been reported to get converted to aldehydes or carboxylic acids in the presence of calcium hypochlorite/acetic acid/acetonitrile [6g] instead of giving α-keto carbonyl compounds.
