Abstract
An early attempt to epoxidize simple@ unsaturated aldehydes by means of hydrogen peroxide under alkaline conditions was reported by Weitz and Scheffer2 in their original study of the epoxidation of a, P-unsaturated ketones. They used a relatively large amount of caustic (as high as 40 mole% based on hydrogen peroxide) in attempts to epoxidize both cinnamaldehyde and crotonaldehyde, but observed only acidic products from both ...
