Abstract

The procedure involved is both simple and rapid. The olefin in tetrahydrofuran is converted into the organoborane by the addition of the calculated quantity of diborane in the same solvent. The a-halo ester (ethyl dibromoacetate, ethyl dichloroacetate, or ethyl a- bromoalkanoate) is added, followed by the addition of the appropriate quantity of potassium t-butoxide in t-butyl alcohol.
