Abstract

Abstract Prosapogenin was obtained by alkaline hydrolysis of Gleditsia saponin GS-C (echinoeystic acid 3, 28-O-bisdesmoside), a new triterpenoid saponin isolated from Gleditsia japoinica. Prosapogenin was shown on the basis of chemical and physicochemical data to be echinocystic acid 3-O-β-d-xylopyranosyl-(1–2)-α-l-arabinopyranosyl-(1–6)-β-d- glucopyranoside.
