Summary. 1. Vinyl mercury oxychloride is obtained when alkaline solutions of acetaldehyde are treated with mercuric chloride. 2. The yield of vinyl mercury oxychloride is proportional to the concentration of the alkali present, showing that the production of vinyl alcohol is likewise proportional to the concentration of the alkali. 3.
