Abstract
1 2 potassium tert-butoxide, or sodium hydride are commonly used for the preparation of 2.2 However, the stability of 2, and thus the acidity of 1, is greatly influenced by the nature of the metal ion, M, in 2, suggesting that in the presence of the appropriate metal ion much weaker bases could be used in the HWE rea~ tion.~ A recent report by (1)(a) Horner, L.; Hoffman, H.; Wippel, HG; Klahre, G.
