Abstract

Reduction of organic compounds is important synthetically both in the laboratory and in industry.'In the course of our investigation on the chemistry of alkenyl-(ethyl) zincs, 2* 3 generated in situ from the corresponding alkenylboranes by transmetalation, we found that in their reactions with benzylic halides, in addition to the coupling product 1, a significant amount of the reduction product 2 was obtained unexpectedly (Scheme I).
