Abstract
The base-catalyzed reaction of hydroxy lactone 1 with several cyclic and acyclic vinylogous amides and 1, 3-dicarbonyl compounds was found to provide a smooth method to prepare pyrrole, furan, tetrahydroindole, and tetrahydrobenzofuran ring systems.
