Abstract

The paper describes azeotropic esterification of ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol with pivalic acid, catalysed by the standard (SX 8) and them acroporous (KP-1), strongly acid styrene-divinylbenzene cation exchangers. In agreement with the swelling capacity of polystyrenesulphonic acid in the reaction medium, and in keeping with the lower degree of cross-linking, a higher esterification rate was measured in the use of the standard catalyst. ...
