Abstract
Abstract Anodic oxidation of N-methoxycarbonyl phenetylamine in MeOH at pH 9 proceeds quantitatively although only 45% conversion can ba reached in a simple undivided electrocall as the result of the formation of an obstructing precipitate. Treatment of several N- acyl-a-methoxy derivatives with cyanide results in elimination instead of substitution. The preparation of Phe from the above-mentioned synthons therefore was unsuccessfull.
