Abstract

4, 4'-Bis (hydroxymethyl) tetrathiafulvalene. To a stirred slurry of 6.5 g (0.0256 mol) of lithium tri-tert-butoxyaluminum hydride and 30 ml of tetrahydrofuran under nitrogen cooled to-78 OC was added 1.81 g (0.00555 mol) of tetrathiafulvalenedicarbonyl chloride. The mixture was stirred for 1 h at-78 OC and then allowed to slowly warm to room temperature during which time the purple solid became amber. After 3 h, the solvent was removed in a stream of ...
