Abstract
γ-Ray or peroxide initiated reactions of acyclic and cyclic alkanes with hexafluoropropene are described. A variety of perfluorocarbons and polyfluorinated alkenes, di-enes and a tetra- ene were synthesised from these polyfluoroalkylated alkanes. Elimination of hydrogen fluoride gives fluorinated alkenes, with unusual kinetic control of product formation and further fluorinations gave novel perfluorocarbons.
