Abstract
A number of 5-(2-oxoalkyl)-2-thiohydantoins were prepared by condensing the appropriate 1-chloro-2-alkanones with ethyl acetamidomalonate and hydrolyzing the intermediate esters to the amino acids and finally converting these to the thiohydantoins. The requisite amino acids for the preparation of the 5-(3-oxoalkyl)-2-thiohydantoins were obtained by hydrolysis of the adducts of alkyl vinyl ketones and ethyl acetamidomalonate.
