Abstract
A distinctive characteristic of 2, 4dimethylpentane oxidation is the unusual efficiency with which the two tertiary hydrogen atoms can be replaced in a single reaction sequence (intramolecular oxidation). The same phenomenon is shown by 2, 4-dimethoxypentane. However, if either a single methyl or methoxy group is replaced by a hydroxyl group, oxidation is limited to the carbinol moiety and hydrogen peroxide and ketone are formed ...
