Abstract
The synthesis of a variety of 1-and 2-substituted bicyclo [lll] pentanes is described. Free- radical substitution occurs primarily at the bridgehead, and both types of hydrogens are markedly deactivated toward freeradical attack. The bridgehead radical opens to the methylenecyclobutyl radical at an appreciable rate.
