Abstract

Abstract The ambident anions derived from a number of imines have been alkylated using a variety of solvents and alkylating agents. Under reactive conditions enamines (N-alkylation) are formed as the main products instead of the usually observed homologous imines (C- alkylation). The influence of the type of imine, solvent and alkylating agent on the mode of alkylation is discussed.
