Abstract
The studies herein reported leave no room for doubting that the transformation of eq 1 is but one example of a general reaction in which the nitro group of an a-nitro nitrile is displaced by a nitroparaffin anion at room temperature with the formation of a p-nitro nitrile. The yields of pure products are excellent; our results are summarized in Table L4
