Abstract

The hydrolysis takes place rapidly in dilute alkali, without appreciable side reactions, so a study of the kinetics of the reaction has been undertaken in an attempt to determine, first, the nature of the rate-determining step, and, second, what connection, if any, exists between this reaction and quaternary ammonium base decomposition.
