Abstract
A facile synthetic route utilizing readily available reagents affords a series of regioisomerically pure xanthene dye derivatives. Advantages include relatively mild conditions and good to excellent yields. Nonpolar, highly crystalline intermediates are isolable by standard chromatographic techniques.
