Abstract

During the preparation of some sulfamides, we observed cleavage of the tert-butyl group from tert-butylsulfamides on treatment with trifluoroacetic acid at room temperature. Since tert-butylsulfamides are readily available from tert-butylsulfamoyl chloride1 and amines, their dealkylation with trifluoroacetic acid would constitute an attractive route to primary sulfamides.
