Abstract
I. p-Hydroxyphenyl Butyl Sulfide by the Thiohydroquinone Method.-Twenty grams of sodium hydroxide (0.5 mole) was partially dissolved in 50 g. of methyl alcohol and to this added a solution of 58.3 g. of thiohydroquinone (0.55 mole) in 50 g. of methyl alcohol. The mixture was stirred while 68 g. of n-butyl bromide (0.5 mole) was being added during the course of fifteen minutes. Reaction set in at once and proceeded vigorously with evolution of heat ...
