Abstract

Previous investigations of the photochemical reactions of cyclic mercaptoles derived from cyclohexanone and cyclopentanone established two major pathways of rea~ tion.~ These are indicated in Scheme I for the mercaptoles of cyclohexanone. When n= 3, path a was the major pathway and gave predominantly the cis product 1. When n= 2, the predominant reaction was via path b to products derived from the thione 2.
