Abstract

The ability of dialkyl sulfides to react with alkyl iodides with the subsequent formation of sulfonium iodides has been known for many year^^,^; however, most of the earlier work was confined chiefly to the lower dialkyl sulfides. Within recent years the higher alkyl halides have become available commercially, thus allowing an extension of this work to sulfides of fairly high molecular weight.
