Abstract
In the presence of a Lewis acid, dialkyl phosphorochloridites react with a-hydroxy ketones to afford P-keto phosphonates and with a-hydroxy esters to afford phosphonic acid diesters. These reactions provide convenient access to a variety of structures, including P-keto phosphonates that are fully substituted at the a-carbon.
