Abstract
The bond-strengthening effect of methyl groups on sulfur is illustrated by the fair stability of (CH3) tS. BHa (mp-38'), the bare existence of CH3SH. BH3 at-78", and the non-existence of H2S. BH3. Loss of Hz from CH3SH. BHa yields the nonvolatile and ether-insoluble white solid (CH3SBHz),, which, on heating past its melting range (65-80') in vucuo, distils out a series of CHISBHz polymers.
