Abstract
RESULTS In this paper it is shown that O-alkyl groups of simple aliphatic phosphonate or phosphate esters react with suitable alkylating agents to undergo an alkyl exchange reaction at high temperatures. This reaction has proved to be a useful synthesis of mixed esters of phosphonio or phosphoric acids, and has also been shown to occur as a si& reaction in certain Michaelis-Arbuzov reactions.
