Abstract
The kinetics of an alkylation reaction are used to probe the effect of an electron-withdrawing pyridinium group on the nucleophilicity of a free pyridine in a photoresponsive dithienylcyclopentene (DTCP) derivative in order to demonstrate effective and reversible control over chemical reactivity.
