Abstract

Stacked or cofacial aromatic or heteroaromatic rings appear in a number of natural products, the most important being nucleic acids where the rings are offset to each other. 1 Furthermore, several studies dealing with 1,8-diaryl 2., 3., 4., 5., 6., 7., 8., 9. and 10. and 1,8-dihetarylnaphthalenes, 11., 12. and 13. where the aromatic rings are π-stacked, have been developed.
