Abstract
Furandiones are extremely versatile synthons in heterocyclic chemistry [1]. Thermal decarbonylation of these compounds yields α-oxoketenes as an intermediate which are capable of undergoing cyclo-and nucleophilic addition reactions with heterodienophiles and nucleophiles, respectively [2].
