Abstract
(Benzy1oxy) benzene (GC 22%) was also formed in addition to 2 (GC 73%) in the coupling reaction. A saturated isomer of 2 was detected by GC/MS analysis and found to be less than 5% of the mixture. Subjecting 3-hydroxyiodobenzene to the same reaction conditions provided a low isolated yield of coupled product (28%) and a considerable amount of 3, 3'- dihydroxybiphenyl.
