Abstract
The synt. hesis of 5-hydroxyperhydro-l, 3-diazepin-2-one (3) is accomplished by two different routes. The first route involves the reduction of the precursor ketone 2, which is synthesized in seven steps from levulinic acid (5). The second approach makes use of the hydration of the symmetrically unsaturated precursor 4 via the hydroboration-oxidation procedure.
