Abstract: A9~ 10-Octalin and dinitrogen tetroxide in ethyl ether in the presence of oxygen yield trans-9, 10-dinitrodecalin (11) and 10-nitro-9-decalyl nitrate (111). Norbornene and dinitrogen tetroxide give, after hydrolysis and chromatography, exo, cis-(IX, major) and trans- (X, minor) 2, 3-dinitrobicyclo [2.2. 1] heptanes and 2-hydroxy-3-nitrobicyclo [2.2. l] heptane (stereochemistry unestablished).
