Abstract
For many years, reactions of alkyl halides in the presence of silver ion were aIways formdated in terms of a rate- determining step consisting of a silver-ion-assisted hetero- lysis of the carbon-halogen bond;l for substitution this was designated as an S,lAg+ reaction.
