Abstract
Abstract In the presence of RuCI 2 (PPh 3) 2 1, 3-dioxolanes and 1, 3-dioxanesreact with alcohols R 1 R 2 CHOH (R 1= R 2-alkyl or H) to give 2-R 1, R 2-1, 3-dioxolanes and 2-R 1, R 2-1, 3 dioxanes, respectively, with practically 100% selectivity. This paper discusses the reaction route of the transacetalization and the role of the catalyst.
