Abstract
The glyoxalase enzymes represent a cellular defence system against the accumulation of cytotoxic α-oxoaldehydes leading to apoptosis. The potential of glyoxalase inhibitors to act as novel anti-cancer agents for drugresistant tumours that over-express glyoxalase is currently under investigation.
