Abstract
Acetalization, α-bromination, nucleophilic phenylselenenylation, oxidative elimination/hydrolysis was investigated as a novel protocol for the α, β-dehydrogenation of aldehydes. Treatment of acetals with bromine in methylene chloride afforded the corresponding α-bromoacetals in 80-90% yields.
