Abstract

The replacement of sulfonic acid groups by nitro groups has not hitherto been studied although a few isolated instances of this sort are to be found in the literature. Thus, Neville and Winther'obtained dinitrocresol from 0-, m-, and p-cresol sulfonic acids by the action of nitric acid; Werner and Kelbe2 prepared dinitro-bromothymol from P-bromothymol sulfonic acid, and a-nitro-bromothymol from a-bromothymol sulfonic acid; Michler and Walders ...
