Abstract
0.5 g. of calcium carbonate were added to 100 ml. of 50% aqueous ethyl alcohol and the mixture heated under reflux on a steam-bath for eight hours. The reaction mixture was cooled, diluted with 50 ml. of water and filtered. The residue was dissolved in 10% sodium hydroxide (the solution was deep blood-red in color), treated with 0.5 g. of activated charcoal and the solution filtered.
