Abstract
Diethylmaleic acid has only been reported as its anhydride6 and dichloro-and dibromomaleic acid readily lose water. However cyclohex-lene-l,% dicarboxylic anhydride is reporteda to be less readily hydrolyzed but lesv readily formed, suggesting that the steric effect of the substituents is less when constrained in a ring.
