Abstract
It was expected that this reaction would be complete in a shorter time than the reaction between the same base and o-chlorobenzoic acid, since it is a well-established iact that a negative substituent in the ortho position with respect to the halogen in the benzene ring greatly increases its mobility, and that a negative group in para position to the halogen has a similar, though considerably smaller, labilizing effect.
