Abstract
The synthesis of quinolines and their derivatives has been of considerable interest to organic and medicinal chemists for many years as a large number of natural products 1 and drugs 2 contain this heterocyclic nucleus. The classical method for quinoline synthesis involves Skraup's procedure. 3 However, it requires a large amount of sulfuric acid at temperatures above 150°C and the reaction is often violent.
