Abstract

Bis-(2-ethylhexyl) sodium sulphosuccinate (AOT) forms micelles in organic solvents in the presence of water; 'inverted' micelles are formed, with an inner core of water (water pool) surrounded by the surfactant molecules. Such aggregates are dispersed in the continuous organic phase. Sometimes a fourth constituent, designated as co-surfactant, usually an aliphatic alcohol, is added to the system to help micellization and increase the size and the stability of the water pools. ...
