Abstract: The dicobalt octacarbonyl catalyzed hydroformylation of 3-methyl-1-hexene-3-dl (14) followed by oxidation and esterification gives 3.1 methyl 3-(ethyl-l-dl) hexanoate (34 in addition to the normal hydroformylation products. The Eu (DPM) 3-shifted nmr spectra of 3-d demonstrated that a 1, 2 migration of deuterium had occurred in the hydroformylation of 1-d.
