Abstract

X-ray crystallography of 2a was undertaken in order to positively determine the structure of 4- amino-1-formyl-5-hydroxy-lH-imidazol-2 (5H)-one (28). Figure 1 shows the ORTEP view of 28. 4-Amino-lH-imidazol-2 (5H)-one 2a existed as the amino form in the solid state. The imidazolone ring was planar. The deviation of the N9 atom from the planar imidazolone ring was only 0.033 A. Table I summarizes the results of the ozonolysis of cytosines. The ORD ...
