Abstract

The monobenzo derivative () of 3a-methyl-3a-indene and its methyl derivative () have been synthesised; although isolable they are reactive, undergoing autoxidation, dimerisation, and other [4+ 2] cycloadditions, thermal and acid catalysed aromatisation to fluorenes, and photochemical rearrangement to naphthalenes.
