Abstract

Summary: Flash vacuum pyrolysis of 1-methoxy-9-diazofluorene (1) yielded 1- phenanthrenol (2). Experiments with'%-and'%-labeled 1 revealed that the source of Clo of 2 is the methoxy carbon of 1, whereas the likely source of Cg of 2 is the diazo-substituted carbon of 1.
