Abstract
(4%) 11 trated in Chart 11. 2-Methyl-5-phenylpentanal (1 1) most likely arises by hydrolysis of the vinyl ether normally produced in these reactions. 1-Phenyl-3-methylcyclopentene (8) and l-phenyl-1, 3-hexadiene (10) are most likely formed by base-catalyzed isomerization of the initially formed cyclopentene (7) and acetylene 9, respectively.
